Phenolphthalein is an organic compound that is used as a laboratory reagent as well as a pH indicator. It appears as a yellowish-white fine crystalline powder and is a member of phenols. Additionally, it exerts laxative effects as it stimulates the intestinal mucosa but is no longer used as a purgative tool due to the carcinogenicity of this compound.
